Snapshot 4 - Skyler Buschman

I've always been very open minded and welcoming to different kinds of music that I discover. I have many songs that are a permanent reminder of a part of my life, and listening to those songs or music brings back the emotions and memories associated with what was going on in my life during the time. I love classic rock/metal, alternative and Rap/Hiphop for the most part. Lately, I've been getting  very into rap and hip-hop. From Tupac to Biggie, Wiz and Kendrick, I've started listening to them all because of the beats and tracks that they rap to, and it is very interesting to me to hear what these people have to say in their music that many others would think is dirty and profane. I see a lot deeper into it. Their music comes from their hearts and their life experiences and it's just amazing to hear what these men have to say and what they've experienced growing up and living in their communities. It's like shining a light onto something you never thought was there. Kendrick Lamar, for instance, came from Compton, California. Most people know of this place from the music of N.W.A with Ice-Cube, Eazy E and Dr. Dre and others. Kendrick, like N.W.A, had a rough childhood filled with poverty, violence and drugs. He uses his music career to try to speak out to people and to show what is going on in these places, and how rough it can be. He uses his music to show that if someone like him can grow up to become successful when coming from a bad neighborhood, others can too. He does not want anyone to become trapped between a rock and hard place in the world that he highlights in his music and encourages others to take chances and pursue their dreams.

"You'll know I always had a passion for riddle when writing
Quote from Kendrick Lamars song, "Cut you off".
But lately I've been thinking 'bout taking chances to brighten
My future financially, so please don't be mad at me
I gotta do what I gotta do, no shit
So I tell my nigga front me, let me put it on the strip
Then give it back when I think about the consequence"

"There are times, when you need someone
I will be by your side
Oh darling, cause there is a light that shines

Special for you, and me yeah
I-take-I-take-take my chances-chances-chances
Before they pass, they pass, they pass
Pass me by, oh darling
You've got to look at the other side"

These two verses above give a great idea of what he is trying to accomplish and instill in others with his music. He knows that people have to do what they have to do to get by in life, whether it be good or bad, and no matter what, you should not give up and to seize opportunities, and if you don't think that you can do it, you have to believe that you can, you've just to look at the other side.

  2. "But lately I've been thinking 'bout taking chances to brighten
My future..." I like this part because how will you know if you would have been able to do something if you don't take a chance. Big or small, everything you do effects who you are as a person. We can't grow as a person unless we take chances.

  3. I also listen to rap from time to time and even some of the same artist you listen too. I really like where you wrote in your snapshot about " It's like shining a light onto something you never thought was there." We are able to learn about their lives through their music.
