Snapshot Four By Gabbie Schilling

Music is the wind that blows through your hair on a windy day. To me music is an escape or another form of freedom, it allows people to lose themselves. I am able to lose myself in music and just completely relax myself. To me music is another form of expression. It gives people an opportunity to be themselves in their own way. I listen to indie rock or alternate music. I would say that this music means more to me because a lot of it is more upbeat but in a softer tone. I don’t think I have a favorite artist or poem, but my favorite song is “Stars” originally by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals. I find that I enjoy listening to covers of songs rather than the original, with that being said I enjoy Shelby Brown’s version of the song. Shelby Brown is a young and upcoming artist who is on the current season of the TV show “The Voice”. I think that I like covers of songs better because the original songs are all so over played on the radio. I picked the song “Stars” because I lost my grandpa last March, and I think of him constantly. When I first heard this song I immediately thought of my grandpa. He is my best friend, and was more of a father figure to me than anything. A line of the song that really gets to me is “And I can't look at the stars They make me wonder where you are Stars, up on Heaven's boulevard And if I know you at all, I know you've gone too far So I, I can't look at the stars”. This line means more to me because when my grandpa and I would go to horse shows we wouldn’t leave until well after dark, and we would take a few minutes on the way home to look at the sky and all of its beauty. I will forever cherish the moments I spent with him.

The picture above is more lyrics of the song “Stars”. The song was originally sang by Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, but I prefer the version sang by Shelby Brown.

  1. I love your metaphor and how you put it right at the begging of the snapshot. I feel the same way about music, it really relaxes me as well. Cover songs are better I agree with you. I like when people use there own ideas to make the song sound unique but it still sounds great.

  2. Hey Gabbie, I love how you said, "I am able to lose myself in music and just completely relax myself." I can definitely relate to this especially when I put on the type of music I listen too. It makes you in a way recharge for the world and what it throws at you in the moments following.

  3. I like how you described music and how it effects us. Your first line is so true where you write, "Music is the wind that blows through your hair on a windy day. To me music is an escape or another form of freedom, it allows people to lose themselves." I use music to escape from daily stress and just relax. I also like it when people do covers of songs and put their own spin on it.
