Journal four from Gabbie Schilling

The active reading is going well so far. The thing I struggle with the most would be finding the time in my busy schedule. It is nice to be able to go to a page, read my notes, and remember what I read. I often times forget what I have read because I am constantly busy between work and school and just life! I underlined the first paragraph from the chapter "Those Who Don't", I chose this because it brings to light the issue with stereotypes and the negative affect that they may have on a culture, or race. I understand that believing a stereotype is easy and judgment comes naturally. But I feel that we should all just take a minute to think of the stereotypes that someone may give us. Me for example, I have tattoos. I get so many "dirty" looks from people now than I ever had before. It just shows that now that I have tattoos people are going to judge me even more on stereotypes. Just because I have tattoos doesn't mean I am going to commit crimes, or be a negative aspect to our society. I feel that is just another way of expressing myself. The point is, just don't judge someone based on others actions.
Honestly, I prefer reading "The House on Mango Street" because it is more creative, and less depressing. Also because it is shorter, which makes it easier for me to read and take my time on it. Although I do enjoy reading "A Long Way Gone" I just don't have the time to sit down and thoroughly enjoy the book.

  1. It is terrible how society is, and how we are so quick to judge others. There is no reason for someone to look down upon you since you have tattoos. Your tattoos help describe you!

  2. I think people with tattoos are brave and I think they are cool. I say screw the people who judge you and live your life as you please because the most important person in your life is you.

  3. I agree with you about the tattoos, who gives a crap what people think embrace your tattoos because they are what make you, you. I also agree with what you said about House on Mango Street because it is easier for me to read.
