Journal 4 Ali

My active reading is going pretty good so far. I have never been given the chance to write and highlight important things inside a book before, and I'm really enjoying it. It is helping me remember important things; and when I go back and read something I highlighted, I can remember the importance of it. And the main theme within that chapter. One thing that I liked about characterization within the book The House on Mango Street is "The seats were big and soft like a sofa, and there was a little white cat in the back window whose eyes lit up when the car stopped or turned" (Cisneros24). I marked this because this is the first time that she was ever in an expensive and nice car. She enjoyed how the seats were huge and comfy and how the windows would automatically roll themselves up. She was in a little bit of paradise but within an instant she was brought back to reality. When her dreams ended with a car crash, and her never being able to experience a luxury like that in her everyday life.
The book that I prefer is A Long Way Gone. I really enjoy this book. It is full of emotion and surprises. I truly entertains me. The theme within this book is just so opposite to my life and the things I've experienced. Ishmael is a young boy who's town is attacked by these rebels and, he is in love with the american music rap. He is taken from everything he has ever known... his friends and family. I am constantly around my friends and family and I could not imagine life without them. The reason as to why I'm so interested in this book is it is the total opposite of me and my life

  1. I'm glad you're also enjoying A Long Way Gone. I agree about how the topic of this book is on the opposite, dark side to life, like war. Something that we have never even come close to while living in the United States, at least in our lifetime. I don't know what I would do if my life was affected in the same way that Beahs was.

  4. I could relate to the car experience within the book. Once when I was in eight grade I had the chance to ride in my uncle's friends Ferrari. The sound of the engine and the smell of italian leather was nothing but a new experience for me. When I took a ride in the car I couldn't believe I was in a Ferrari. Riding in expensive cars makes you feel like your royalty or a celebrity because you have so many people watch you like they've never seen a car like that before. I felt upset when I had to get out of the car and go back to my normal life after the ride.
